the last few days of your secondary school life
The Cocoon & the Butterfly
A man found a cocoon of a butterfly, that he brought home.
One day a small opening appeared in the cocoon.
He sat and watched the coccon for several hours as the butterfly struggled to force its body through that little hole.
Then it seemed to stop making progress. It appeared as if the butterfly had gotten as far as it could, and it could go no further.
The man decided to help the butterfly in it's struggle. He took a pair of scissors and snipped off the remaining bit of the cocoon...and the butterfly emerged easily.
As the butterfly emerged, the man was surprised.
It had a swollen body and small, shriveled wings.
He continued to watch the butterfly expecting that, at any moment, the wings would dry out, enlarge and expand to support the swollen body.
He knew that in time the body which would contract and the butterfly would be able to fly.
But neither happened!
In fact, the butterfly spent the rest of its life crawling around with a swollen body and shriveled wings.
It never was able to fly.
What the man, in his kindness and haste, did not understand was that the restricting cocoon and the struggle were required for the butterfly to be able to fly.
The butterfly must push it's way through the tiny opening to force the fluid from its body and wings. Only by struggling through the opening, can the butterfly's wings be ready for flight once it emerges from the cocoon.
Sometimes struggles are exactly what we need in our life.
If we were allowed us to go through our life without any obstacles, it would cripple us. We would not be as strong as we could have been.
And we could never fly.

Start of the second half
School reopens!!
Lucas was not interested in being successful. That was not so for Daniel. He was always trying to find ways to get rid of Lucas, so he could be the most popular carpenter out there in Venice. Lucas became less and less popular, all thanks to Daniel. He used his connections, and forced Lucas to take on all the most difficult jobs. Because they were so difficult, there was little time or resources to complete them, so Lucas was pretty much stuck in a rut. These difficult jobs needed extra time or skills which the simpler jobs did not require.
Thus, after a very short time, Daniel had succeeded. Lucas’ popularity was plummeting, and it was finally time for Daniel to really shine. And just when he was thinking that, it was over for him.
In a few years’ time, Lucas’ popularity had completely surpassed Daniel. He was the number one carpenter in Venice. Government agencies and private developers alike sought for the services of Lucas, often fighting among themselves just to get into Lucas’ waiting list to have him oversee the construction of new buildings or repair the old and damaged ones.
Do you know how Lucas did it? That was what Daniel asked him too.
“You sneaky good for nothing wastrel! What did you do? How could it be that you are even more popular than me? Hey! Answer me! Did you bribe more people than me? How could you have done that? You do not have any powerful connections! Did you marry someone whose father is even more powerful than my father in law? Huh? Just what happened? What did you do that I did not? How can I lose to a lousy carpenter like you? I thought I gave you all the most difficult jobs!”
Lucas answered thusly, “You are right. Thanks to those difficult jobs, I was able to improve. I should thank you.”
A little bit of motivation for the next 4 months for all you stalkers of this site :)
Ever heard of this story? There once were two popular carpenters in Venice. They both were students of a good carpenter who passed on his skills to them before he died. One was a rich man’s son. He was quite good at his trade, but he relied mostly on his connections. That was Daniel. The other was a weird one. He claimed that once he started working, he would not stop or eat. That was Lucas.

O level results out at 2pm, Thursday 10th January 2013
Boys and girls!!!
O level results will be released this Thursday 10th January at 2pm! Good luck!!
While holding that sacred piece of paper called "Your O Level Results Slip", so many emotions will come to you, some good, some bad, as you conclude your 4 or 5 years' journey in Secondary school.
Take note that this is just the beginning of many journeys you will go thru as we pass through this big big journey called Life.
Whether you have done well or not, whether you have fulfilled your expectations or not, take heart that you have tried your best and look forward to your next journey :)
You will meet more friends, see more mountains and valleys, and gain new experiences which get more interesting as you go.
This is the beginning, and there are still so many things to see, to do, to have fun, to experience.
The world is so big!
One advice for you:)
Have fun!
